Show window previews (thumbnails) Option is Disabled or grayed out in Taskbar properties.

Action

Tried to check the show window previews (thumbnails) options in properties of Task bar.

Result

unable to do it since options is greyed out.

Cause

Incorrect Group Policy settings or registry key corruption for that particular key.

Resolution

Follow the steps mentioned below :

Method 1 and 2 can be followed if the Ver of Os is Business or Ultimate.

Method :1

Step 1 : Open the Start Menu.

Step 2 : In the white line (Start Search) area, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Step 3: In the left pane, click on User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar.

Step 4: In the right pane, right click on Turn off taskbar thumbnails and click Properties.

Step 5: To Enable Taskbar Thumbnails - Put dot for Not configured options and click OK.

Note : if its not Configured options is checked try to put it to enabled and recheck the not Configured and click OK.

Step 6: Restart the computer and Check .

Method 2 can be Followed only if Os ver is Home Premium and Basic

Step 1 : Open the registry by typing regedit in start search.

Step 2 : Back up the Registry by follow the article - 322756/322755.

Step 3 : Navigate to the path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

NOTE: If you do not have Explorer, then right click on Policies and click New -> Key and type Explorer and press Enter.

Step 4: In the right pane, right click on TaskbarNoThumbnail and click Delete.

or change the Value to TaskbarNoThumbnail to 0 by Double-clicking on it.

Step 5: close the registry and Restart the Computer and Check.
