Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Pre Beta.

Hey…

Here’s something that we can have a talk about… Windows Vista’s new offerring to the public… its latest Service Pack 2 (Pre Beta - 6002.16489)… I got this oppurtunity to install this Service pack on my test machine… and guess what??? It Works!!!!

Yes.. Windows Vista Service Pack 2 has changed my system performance.. wow the boot time is faster and the apps load faster and it is working good… and this is what Mike Nash has to say about the improvements in Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

We are committed to continually improving Windows, and we’ve been getting some questions about the timing of the next service pack for Windows Vista. Following the success of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 last spring, we have been working hard on Windows Vista Service Pack 2. As a part of the development and testing process, we’re going to start by providing a small group of Technology Adoption Program customers with Windows Vista SP2 Beta for evaluation next Wednesday, October 29. The final release date for Windows Vista SP2 will be based on quality. So we’ll track customer and partner feedback from the beta program before setting a final date for the release.

Windows Vista SP2 Beta contains previously released fixes focused on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues. We expect Windows Vista SP2 will retain compatibility with applications that run on Windows Vista and Windows Vista SP1 and are written using public APIs.

Because we’ve adopted a single serviceability model, these improvements are integrated into a single service pack covering both Windows Vista (client) and Windows Server 2008 (server) versions. This should also minimize deployment and testing complexity for our customers.

In addition to previously released updates since the launch of Windows Vista SP1, Windows Vista SP2 contains changes focused on supporting new types of hardware and adding support for several emerging standards:

  • Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches.
  • Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology.
  • Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista.
  • Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration.
  • Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones.

One question I know that you will ask is “should I wait for SP2?” The reality is that Windows Vista SP1 is a great platform that is both available on new Windows PCs and available as a free download for systems that are running the “gold” release of Windows Vista. While we will recommend SP2 when it ships, your best bet today is Windows Vista SP1.

I look forward to sharing more about Windows Vista SP2 in the future - stay tuned!

So here are the screenshots of the install for you people.

Hi,

This is a better product released by Microsoft last week. Comparing Beta 1 to Beta 2… Beta 2 is really good with optimum speed of browsing and comes out with some of the new features.

Here are the screenshots of the installation:

Before upgrading to Windows Vista - Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

Microsoft had released the first Service Pack for Windows Vista after it’s launch in the beginning of the year. Microsoft had taken almost 6 months to release its first Service Pack combining all the cumulative updates that is being downloaded through Windows Update.

Finally, lots of Microsoft customers started planning to upgrade to Windows Vista, but before upgrading to Windows Vista, Microsoft suggested to run Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor which is a free tool released by Microsoft to ensure that the existing hardware and software is compatible with Windows Vista.

This tells if the hardware — CPU, RAM, video memory, and CD/DVD drive, etc., are sufficient. If this is not the case, then it will display the list which is required to upgrade the PC. For example, the amount of memory need to be added.

Also, it examines all external devices and drivers including modem, printer, scanner, sound card, monitor, and video card. If a device doesn’t pass the compatibility test, the report explains what action to be taken, such as downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s web site. A link to the web site is conveniently provided.

Finally, it analyzes installed software, it lists out which applications are able to run under Windows Vista and which ones are incompatible or need to be upgraded in order to pass the test.

Before you run the Upgrade Advisor it gives you the option to select the flavor of Windows Vista that you wish to install. In the process of analyzing, if any one of the components fail the compatibility test for the most powerful version, which is Windows Vista Ultimate then it allows you to go back to select the next version or flavor, and it will be ready for the next compatibility test.
