July 21st, 2008 bala No comments

After installing SP3, there are several issues with both Microsoft and Non-Microsoft applications. One common issue is with the device manager if you have Norton 2008 installed on the computer.

As usual, Norton blames Microsoft and Microsoft blames Norton, but the end users are facing the trouble.

Here are the steps to resolve this issue by uninstalling Norton

Note : Before you uninstall Norton please log on to the page given below to learn how to take back your product key.

Uninstall Norton by downloading the removal tool from here,

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

Reboot the computer and check the status of the Device Manager and Network Connections.

If problem persists still then follow the steps given below (please do not try the steps if you are not comfortable with registry.)

Start -> Run -> Regedit -> Ok.
Locate HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet00X\Enum\Root\LEGACY_LIVEUPDATE_NOTICE
and delete Legacy Live Update Notice key (where x is a number).
Locate HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Enum\Root\LEGACY_LIVEUPDATE_NOTICE delete Legacy Live Update Notice key
Reboot the computer and check the status

How To Handle Pop-Up In Firefox

July 21st, 2008 peter Comments off

One of the advantages of Firefox is that it automatically blocks pop-ups.

Generally, blocking the pop-up is a good action, but in some sites, the pop-up page would have some relevant information which is needed by us, and thus we would have to retrieve those blocked pop-ups.

Whenever a pop-up is blocked, Firefox alerts us through a yellow bar which appears at the top of the web page. We can click anywhere on the yellow bar and choose whether to allow it or not. It has an option of maintaining a list of sites from which pop-ups can be allowed.

To select web sites from which pop-ups should be allowed, follow the below steps:

1. Go to Tools - Options.

2. From the column on your left, select web features.

3. Select on allowed sites across from block pop-up windows.

4. Add or remove a site and select OK.

5. To add a site, enter the URL of the site where pop-ups should be allowed. Example: www.yahoo.com - “Allow” - OK.

6. To remove a web site, select the web site from the list, and select “remove site” - OK.
