Microsoft had recently released the latest version of Windows Search and it is ready for download. Windows Search 4.0 has got better indexing, better support for the remote query of shared index locations, unique group policy settings, and more.

Windows Search 4.0 helps you to find and preview documents, e-mail messages, music files, photos, and other items on the computer.

Windows Search 4.0 is available for Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista SP1 & Windows Server 2003 SP2 / Windows Server 2008.

Windows Search 4.0 installation automatically upgrades Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 2.6 or later versions of Windows Search technologies. Users who have an earlier version than Windows Desktop Search 2.6 installed, need to go to the Add or Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel and remove the earlier version before installing Windows Search 4.0

Also, Microsoft released the update to enable MUI support for Windows Search 4.0. The single MUI installation package contains resources for 31 languages (including English). Currently it is available only for Windows XP.

After uninstalling SP3, Windows Search might stop working, if the Windows Search is upgraded manually or separately through Windows Update.
